Kitchenspin Privacy Policy
Short version: Kitchenspin has no backend server, no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising. Everything you save stays on your device. We — the developer — never receive, see, or store any of your data.
What data the app handles, and where it lives
- Your recipe collection (dish names, ingredients, steps, photos, notes) is stored locally on your device in a local database. It never leaves your device to any server we operate, because we don't operate one.
- Camera and Photo Library access is used only when you choose to scan a menu/recipe photo or attach a photo to a dish. Photos you select are copied into the app's local storage on your device and are not uploaded anywhere by us.
- Links you paste or share into the app (from Safari, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, or elsewhere) are fetched directly from your device to read the public recipe page and pull out the name, ingredients, and steps. This request goes straight from your device to the website you linked to — it does not pass through any server belonging to us.
- On-device text recognition (OCR), used for the "scan a photo" import option, runs entirely on your device using Apple's built-in frameworks. Scanned text never leaves your device.
iCloud sync and household sharing
A future version of Kitchenspin will add optional sync via Apple's iCloud (CloudKit), so your collection can follow you across your own devices, and optional sharing with one other person in your household. When this ships:
- Sync will use your own iCloud account, under Apple's standard iCloud privacy terms — we will not have access to synced data.
- Household sharing will be a direct, private connection between the people you invite, brokered entirely by Apple's iCloud infrastructure. We will not be able to see shared collections.
- This policy will be updated when that capability ships.
What we don't do
- No account creation or login is required to use the app.
- No analytics SDKs or third-party tracking libraries are included in the app.
- No advertising, and no ad networks are integrated.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties, because we do not collect it in the first place.
- We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Children's privacy
Kitchenspin is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, regardless of age — the app simply doesn't collect data at all.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes — for example, when iCloud sync or household sharing ships — we'll update this page and revise the effective date above.
